Once again we want to update our SMCT family regarding our response to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is with much regret that we have decided to postpone our Fall Season. This means that our USO Show and Into the Woods will not walk the boards, yet. It’s disappointing to put these shows on hold, but right now we all need to do our part, practice social distancing, and not assemble in large groups. As much as we love theatre, we love our audiences more and want you to be safe!
Seeing that it isn’t safe for you to come to us, we have assembled online programming to bring entertainment to you. Coming this summer we will present Therapy a short play by Swamp Meadow Creative Director Shannon McLoud. We are filming now, so be on the lookout for this as you’ll be able to watch the show alongside the cast members! This is a fun way to connect in a way we can’t always connect in person.
In August we will host 100 Years A Celebration of Women in honor of the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage. If you want to be a part of this night, email us at creative@swampmeadow.org! This is your chance to perform if you’ve never performed before, or to celebrate your favorite female characters, poets, maybe something you’ve written!
Coming this fall, our radio play Cyrano De Bergerac: In Space, a new adaptation by Swamp Meadow Assistant Creative Director Tyler H. Vigeant, will be available online as an episodic podcast. We’re recording and editing now and believe us, it’s out of this world!
We’ll be announcing our Holiday plans shortly, but we promise to not leave you empty-handed during the holidays!
It has been exciting to see all of the ways local theater in Rhode Island has been reinventing themselves and are working on doing so as well. Join us and help us out! But virtually. For now, stay safe, practice social distancing, and always sing in the shower.
All our best,
Andy Affleck
