COVID-19 Update 2

Dear Swamp Meadow Community,

We have an update on the remainder of our current season and news about our upcoming season. First off, it is with much disappointment we must postpone Foster Follies. We do not yet know when we will be able to reschedule it but we will keep you posted.

Our spring show Into the Woods is now our fall show. We are working out the exact dates but rehearsals will be through the fall and performances in December. We will post updates to our website when we have worked out the details. We hope that the entire cast will be able to stay with us!

The summer Children’s Theatre show, Schoolhouse Rock, and our Unplugged show Trail to Oregon are both still scheduled for this summer and we hope that that won’t change but, of course, we keep watching what is happening and hope for the best. We will post audition information on our website.

This fall (in November) we will perform our USO Dinner Theater!

We had originally planned to do a 10th anniversary edition of the 2010 Get Merry (the original) this December but with Into the Woods taking that slot, we will move Get Merry to the Holiday season of 2021.

Next spring we are pleased to announce will be the almost-20th anniversary reprise of the first show Swamp Meadow ever performed: Cinderella! More details about that will be available this fall.

It has been heartbreaking to see all of the delays and cancellations of theater companies in and near Rhode Island and we thank you for your continued support of the arts across the entire region. But for now, stay safe, practice social distancing, and always sing in the shower.

All our best,

Andy Affleck, Executive Director, Swamp Meadow Community Theater

Auditions for The Trail to Oregon!

Join our caravan as we trek the Wild West in The Trail to Oregon! Follow your typical, American Pioneer family as they travel to their new home in… Ore-gome. It’s a wacky, musical adventure where our audience gets to name the characters and decide their fate.

Audioners must be 17 years old to audition. Don’t worry young Pioneers, our kids show is around the corner!

Due to Virus concerns, the “Trail to Oregon” team has made the executive decision to cancel the April 11th audition. We have opted to take advantage of “quarantine” and will offer the ability to audition through video.

We ask that in your Audition Video, to present 32 bars from a song of your choice as well as read/sing “You Gotta Go” from the musical set to our attached “music” link. With the latter, we are looking to see your acting ability, or how you react while singing a very lovely song while dying of dysentery.
Please send the video in a MP4 file or a link to your uploaded video on Youtube.

Once completed, please email email hidden; JavaScript is required your audition video and we will send you an info sheet, to be completed and sent back via email.

Please have your videos submitted no later than May 2nd by 4pm as we will not accept videos after that.

We will also tentatively plan an additional physical audition on May 2nd from 12pm to 4pm at the Warwick Public library. This will not be by appointment and will go on first come/first serve. Thank you for you understanding and your flexibility as we try to be safe and accommodate the virus.

Foster Follies 2020

Update: Foster Follies has been postponed due to COVID-19. We will update this page as soon as we are able to reschedule it.

Swamp Meadow Community Theatre’s Foster Follies takes place on Friday, April 3, 2020. This year’s event is once again hosted by the lovely Becky Adams. The Foster Follies is one of RI’s most anticipated variety shows of the year — come see why!

There is a variety of entertainment in store for you for the evening!  We have comedy, improv, musical acts, monologues, magic and instrumentals  lined up.

Becky Adams will be returning as our emcee for the evening, accompanied by Jayne Lear. Their improv comedy will keep you laughing between performances by Justin Taylor, Joelle Beaudreault, Emma Rategan, Jed Rategan, Elena Wildes, Tom Morey, Allyson Govoni, Corinna Lotter, Holly Lotter, Tyler Vigeant, Drake Lowe, Shannon McLoud, Brady McLoud, Rob LeBeau, Maia Maio, Audrey Dubois, Merynn Flynn, Mary Mattiace, Mario Mattiace and Athan Phenix.

By popular demand, this year we’re featuring bistro-style seating so you can take full advantage of the Club’s special show menu that night. Raffle tickets for baskets and other items are available, all proceeds to aid Swamp Meadow as we strive to bring the Community back to the Theatre!

The Country Club kitchen and bar will be open for guests to purchase drinks, dinner and appetizers, so come early!  You can purchase these throughout the show as well.

The Foster Country Club is located at 67 Johnson Dr. in Foster. Admission is $15 per person with a family maximum of $50.  (SMCT uses the definition of ‘family’ as those living under the same roof.)  Tickets will be available at the door. Doors open at 6pm, show starts at 7pm.
