Watch the recording:
We are planning to do a table-read of a new show (“A Christmas Carol 2020”) over Zoom within the next three or four weeks. (Sooner, if possible.) We’d have a couple of rehearsals over Zoom, and then go “live.” (Whether we pre-record it and show that for the “live” event, or actually do it “live,” will depend on how the rehearsals go technology-wise.)
There are seventeen characters, but a few of them are just one line, so we might double-up on some of those if we do not get enough interest in taking part.
If you are interested in taking part, please contact Dennis Chretien (tech@swampmeadow.org), and we’ll send you a copy of the script so you may review it and decide if you do want to be a part of it. You should be aware that this is an extremely political script, so some people will not want to participate.
If you do take part, you will have to have good Zoom access. For some people who are local, we can provide some tools such as mics, but you’ll have to be responsible for setting up your own system, including lighting and making sure you have no echos and such. (We will work through those things in rehearsal.)
We’re going to do this without any “sets” (virtual backgrounds) or sound effects, but if you want to wear a costume if that helps you be more in-character, that’s fine. If you’re doubling up on parts, then maybe changing a hat or something will help. We’re really hoping that people can put as much emotion as possible into the readings so that the characters really stand out. (You are welcome to set up your own virtual background, if you want, as long as it fits in with the story and doesn’t detract from the reading.)
We are hoping to get this cast so we can schedule rehearsals within the next week or two, if possible. Basically, this will require a couple of evenings of Zoom for rehearsal, and and one evening for the actual show, which probably will be a Friday or Saturday night, but that hasn’t been determined, yet.
